jesus fucking christ i have so many issues with this. first of all, beauty and the beast is NOT about stockholm syndrome, it’s actualy a metaphor for a bride’s fear of sexual discovery. secondly, the little mermaid is NOT and NEVER HAS BEEN about changing for the person you love. ariel wanted to be human BEFORE she met eric (which everyone seems to magically forget), and she’s trying to escape her abusive father. how is triton abusive, you ask? well, he flips his shit when she doesn’t sing at a concert dedicated to how awesome he is, he forbids her to leave him, he has people spy on her, and then he comes in her room and blows up all of her shit for no reason. ariel’s reasons for becoming human were greater and more deep than simply seeing a hot guy; it just so happens that eric was a deciding factor. eric was someone who lived in a place where her father couldn’t reach her, and someone who was like what she wanted to be, and someone who would love her. so FUCK YOU. in addition, cinderella has sort of the same problem. she’s overworked, overwrought, and bullied into sumbission by the people who were supposed to be her family. now that her father’s dead, she has no one left to protect her. despite all this, she still manages to be one of the sweetest, kindest, and smartest princesses in the disney lineup. and she didn’t go to the ball just to meet and marry the prince- she didn’t even give a shit about that! she went to have fun and escape her stepmother and -sisters for a night. she ends up falling in love with the prince- good for her! getting a makeover wasn’t something that solved her problems, it allowed her to be herself without the burden of her family for a night. then she took initiative and got out of the room her family LOCKED HER INTO to save herself. so, again, FUCK YOU. and for the hunchback of notre dame, don’t fucking hate on esmeralda or i will cut you so bad, sweeney todd will look like a grandma pruning some roses. just because quasimodo was nice to her doesn’t mean she owes him jack shit. he was afraid and kind of racist (not his fault, but still), whereas phoebus didn’t give a shit about her race, he only cared about her. and don’t even get me STARTED on the original hugo text, because then esmeralda gets fucked over by EVERYONE and is not only a madonna-whore figure to quasimodo and frollo, but to PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE EVER. so, once more with feeling, FUCK YOU. i’m not gonna deny that princess and the frog had some serious issues, because while it was adorable and vaguely empowering from a feminist standpoint, the overtly racism themes were more than a little off-putting. but, seriously, fuck you and your surface-deep “witty” criticisms of disney movies, because you clearly didn’t understand it at all.
ALSO Pongo and Perdita only had fifteen puppies, which is normal for dogs. The rest were adopted to save them from getting skinned.
